New COVID processes – students leaving early and absent students

We can no longer have parents or carers on-site at Byron Bay High School unless you have a pre-arranged appointment with a staff member or you have been called to collect your child from sick bay. This change is in line with current COVID-19 restrictions.

In accordance with the advice we have from NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms. School will make arrangements for students who present as unwell or have flu-like symptoms to be sent home.

Illness

Staff or students who are unwell or have even mild flu-like symptoms must arrange to be COVID tested through their local practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics. Students and staff with even the mildest flu like symptoms will need to provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result before being permitted to return to school. When replying to the absentee sms please give details of your child’s illness or it will be assumed it is potentially flu-like.

Appointments

All appointments to take students earlier than 3:30pm must be organised prior to students coming to school. Students MUST bring a permission note from their parent/carer to the front office prior to 9am in the morning. Our front office staff will print their permission slip that will allow your child to leave their class or school grounds at the time of their departure.

Unforseen/Urgent ONLY early departures - phone the school to have your child/ren collected for an URGENT ONLY early pick up. Your child will then be waiting at the front gate to be collected.

We look forward to the day when our school is open to all members of our school community again, including our lovely parents and carers.
