2019 HSC Drama Graduates selected for OnSTAGE!

students selected for OnSTAGE

It is with great excitement that I would like to congratulate the following 2019 HSC Drama graduates on being selected for OnSTAGE!

Congratulations Anoushka Blake-Cadou, Finn MacPherson, Kaia Shearer and Isabella Stephens.

These four talented and dedicated dramatists have made it through the final selection process into OnSTAGE with their entertaining group performance “Story of a Hat”. They will perform this original piece at the Seymour Centre in February over a week of matinee and evening shows.

The selection process for OnSTAGE is rigorous and this is an incredibly impressive accolade for Byron Bay High School and the students. I am so very proud of their achievements and am looking forward to attending the show and seeing our students shine on the stage. The HSC Drama class of 2020 plus Ms Marcus will be joining me in the audience. What a great note upon which these four students will end their time at Byron Bay High!

In other news, 8I and 8G will be showcasing their talent and focus on Monday 9 December when they perform the final shows of the play “Have a Voice, Make a Choice” for Year 7 audiences and parents. 8I will perform at 12noon and 8G at 2:15pm in the PAC. After this, the play will be put to rest and a fresh new work will be devised by our 2020 Year 9 Drama classes.

Lastly, Byron Youth Theatre will be performing the play “Under Your Thumb” for Year 9 and 10 Drama students in the PAC on Wednesday 27 November at 11:15am. The play explores issues of abuse and covers topics such as gaslighting, consent and the effects of social media. The company will be bringing a representative from the Women’s Resource Service and/or Headspace for a debrief/ Q&A afterwards. This is not a compulsory incursion and you may contact me if you do not wish your child to attend. The performance cost is covered by the school and is free for students.

You can see more information about “Under Your Thumb” at the end of this newsletter.
